We are recruiting a talented graduate student or postdoctoral fellow to continue our research looking at the zebrafish gut response to a Vibrio cholerae infection. Fish are an excellent, genetically accessible system to explore Vibrio pathogenesis. Similar to humans, infected fish develop a cholera-like diarrheal disease hallmarked by a mild, localized inflammatory response. Importantly, the fish gut is remarkably similar to mammalian counterparts in terms of development and cell-type composition. As a result, work with the fish has the potential to illuminate critical aspects of human responses to infection.

Researchers in the Foley lab have access to state of the art genomic, imaging, and fish breeding facilities in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, alongside multiple opportunities to attend national and international meetings. We emphasize career and skill development throughout the trainee's stay in the lab. We celebrate the unique qualities each member brings to our team, and work together to build an environment where everyone feels welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and economic status.

Candidates are encouraged to contact Edan (efoley@ualberta.ca) with a copy of their CV and a brief statement of their research experiences and interests.
